Al Shira'aa International Horse Show started on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi (UAE). The four star event has plenty of top riders present, starting with the native United Arab Emirates team that was victorious in the Challenge Cup in Barcelona last year. The first Longines ranking class of the weekend, a 1.45m with a jump-off presented by Team Z7 saw 46 horse-and-rider combinations line up for the challenges set by the course designer Bernardo Costa Cabral.

A total of 21 pairs cleared the first round and joined the jump-off, with a few riders opting to pass and save their horses for the other class coming up later on in the weekend. At the end of an exciting evening it was Shane Breen (IRL) on the 12-year-old stallion Can Ya Makan (Canturo x Fara) that took the top honours, after clocking a time of 33,28 seconds in the jump-off. Kotayba Al Doygri (SYR) on the 9-year-old stallion Queensland E (Quickfire De Ferann x Socrate De Chivre) took the runner-up position with a time of 33,57 seconds, while Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) on the 12-year-old gelding Artiste de l'Abbaye d'Aulne (Conquest van de Helle x Idem d'Azur) had to settle for third spot with a time of 34,84 seconds. Cecilie Hatteland (NOR) on the 13-year-old gelding Alex (Oklund x Fruhling) took the fourth place with a time of 34,93 seconds and the fifth spot went to Abdullah Al Sharbatly (KSA) on the 15-year-old Woulon L (Toulon x G.Ramiro Z), after the pair clocked a time of 35,20 seconds. The class was also a qualifier for the Grand Prix, with the top 25 securing their right to start on Saturday.
