Mario Deslauriers, Andrew Welles, Rowan Willis, Richard Spooner, Tiffany Foster and Quentin Judge – all winners at Spruce Meadows ‘Pan American’

This weekend’s CSI5* 1.60m Pan American Cup Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows was won by Mario Deslauriers (CAN) after he delivered the only double clear in the class riding Bardolina 2 (Clarimo x Villmey). Deslauriers was followed by his daughter Lucy Deslauriers (USA) after she finished the jump-off with four faults in 37.09 seconds with her long-time partner Hester (Wandor vd Mispelaere x Winde D’Artevelde). Third place went to Erynn Ballard (CAN) with Darkos Promise (Darco x Semper Odem) that finished the shortened course with four faults in 37.63 seconds.

In fourth and fifth followed two riders with one time penalty from the first round – Alberto Sanchez-Cozar (MEX) with Union de la Nutria (Diamant de Semilly x Kannan) and Conor Swail (IRL) with Rubens LS La Silla (Rebozo LS La Silla x Casvi).

Earlier on Sunday, Andrew Welles (USA) took the top honours in the 1.50m West Canadian Cup riding Serpico (Ars Vivendi x Aldatus Z). Ten riders made it to the jump-off and six of them cleared the course for a second time. Welles ended the shortened course in 38.27 – followed by Hunter Holloway (USA) with Easter Jam (Lexicon x Salana) in 39.07 seconds, Capt. Brian Cournane (IRL) with Penelope Cruz (Ustinov x Peter Pan) in 39.56 seconds, Ali Ramsay (CAN) with Hermelin vd Hooghoeve (Tangelo vd Zuuthoeve x Thunder vd Zuuthoeve) in 41.48 seconds and Jenn Serek (CAN) with Wicked (Eurocommerce Berlin x Diamant de Semilly) in 41.68 seconds.

Saturday’s Friends of the Meadows Cup – a 1.50m class with jump-off – was won by Rowan Willis (AUS) with Everse W (Lexicon x Carthago). Willis was the fastest one of three double clears in the class with his time of 40.45 seconds. The runner-up position went to Israel through Ashlee Bond with Chela LS (Chapultepec LS x Tlaloc LS) after they crossed the finish line in 41.26 seconds. Jim Ifko (CAN) had to settle for third place with his time of 41.34 seconds riding Un Diamant des Forets (Diamant de Semilly x Papillon Rouge). Two Mexican riders followed in fourth and fifth – both with four faults in the jump-off – Antonio Maurer with Chacstara 2 (Chacco-Blue x Cento) and Enrique Gonzalez with Zapzerap (Zapatero VDL x Ramiro Z).

The second 1.50m class on Saturday – the Akita Drilling Cavalry Charge – saw USA, Brazil and Ireland on the podium: Richard Spooner with Arthos R (Namelus R x Mermus R), Rodrigo Lambre with Chapilot (Chacco-Blue x Pilot) and Daniel Coyle with Farona (Baltic x Lux). They were followed by Rowan Willis (AUS) with Shark (Arko x Pilot) and Santiago Lambre (MEX) with D’Artagnan (Mr. Blue x Carthago).

Richard Spooner (USA) had a good week at Spruce and also won Friday’s 1.55m Duncan Ross Cup – this time riding Quirado RC (Quinar x Corrado I). Spooner flew through the jump-off in 36.33 seconds and was followed by runner-up Quentin Judge (USA) with HH Conrad (ConAir x Locato) in 37.03 seconds. Third place went to Rodrigo Lambre (BRA) with Chacciama (Chacco-Blue x Andiamo), fourth place to Eric Lamaze (CAN) with Saura de Fondcombe (Balou du Rouet x Paladin Des Ifs) and fifth place to Molly Ashe (USA) with D’Arnita (Vingino x Emilion).

Tiffany Foster (CAN) won Friday’s 1.50m class with the beautiful Brighton (Contendro II x Quick Star). Foster was slightly faster than Ireland’s Conor Swail with GK Coco Chanel (Clarimo x Lerano) and Jenn Serek (CAN) with Wicked (Eurocommerce Berlin x Diamant de Semilly). Jonathon Millar (CAN) with Daveau (Zento x Glenridge) and Eric Lamaze (CAN) with Coco Bongo (Caretino x Calido) filled up the top five.

Thursday’s 1.50m Cargill Cup saw American rider Quentin Judge on top riding Girogio van’t Hagenhof (Bentley x Kannan). Only three riders went double clear in this class with 57 starters. Vladimir Tuganov (RUS) with Suspens Floreval (Clinton x Unknown) followed as runner-up and Francisco Pasquel (MEX) with Coronado (Cassini x Acord II) took the third place. Fourth and fifth place went to Ireland through Daniel Coyle with Farona (Baltic x Lux) and Capt. Brian Cournane with DSH Charly (Clearway x Silvester).
