The CSIO5* event in Sopot, Poland kicked off on Thursday and it was Brazil's Cassio Rivetti on the 11-year-old stallion Lagerfeld (Lauterbach x Calvaro) that took home the top honours in the opening 1.45m class with a time of 21,96 seconds in the second phase.

Bronislav Chudyba (SVK) on the 10-year-old mare Balouness (Balou du Rouet x Goldstrand) placed second with a time of 22,22 seconds and the third place went to Jaroslaw Skrzyczynski (POL) on the 8-year-old gelding Silver Shine (Califax x Balou du Rouet) with a time of 22,43 seconds. Antonio Matos Almeida (POR) on the 16-year-old gelding Nikel de Presle (Kannan x Fennec) placed fourth with a time of 23,02 seconds and Taizo Sugitani (JPN) on the 13-year-old stallion Cuba (Cassini II x Nimmerdor) took the fifth spot with a time of 23,25 seconds in the second phase.

Thursday's biggest class, a 1.50m against the clock, saw Emanuele Gaudiano (ITA) on the 8-year-old stallion Chalou (Chacco Blue x Baloubet du Rouet) blaze to the victory with a time of 58,05 seconds. Out of the 90 pairs that started, 36 went clear - but no one could threaten the speedy Italian. Thierry Goffinet (BEL) on the 11-year-old gelding Artuur JH Z (Andiamo x Baloubet du Rouet) placed second with a time of 59,73 seconds and Jaroslaw Skrzyczynski (POL) on the 9-year-old mare Quintella (Sanvaro x Baloubet du Rouet) took the third spot with a time of 60,03 seconds. Cian O'Connor (IRL) on the 9-year-old mare Cybel II (Varo x Lancer) placed fourth with a time of 60,51 seconds, just ahead of his student Lillie Keenan (USA) on the 12-year-old gelding Fibonacci (For Feeling x VDL Corlando), who took the fifth spot with a time of 61,01 seconds.
