Following last night’s cancellation of the Longines Challenge Cup in Barcelona, the FEI has announced that it will be Spain that will be promoted to the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Division 1 for 2017.

Together with Austria, Spain was in the run for promotion to Europe Division 1. The two teams, that both have competed in Division 2 this year, were supposed to jump for the Division 1-spot in last night’s Longines Challenge Cup in Barcelona that was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

“Under the series rules, the best ranked Division 2 team at the 2016 Final will be promoted to Division 1 for 2017,” explained FEI Nations Cup Jumping Director John Roche in a press release from the FEI.

Spain finished 12th in Thursday’s first competition, and will under the rules for the Nations Cup series move up to Division 1. Austria, that finished 13th in the first competition in Barcelona, will remain in Division 2 for the 2017 season. The Austrian and Spanish Chefs d’Equipe were informed of the decision by the FEI last night.
