Sadly, Switzerland’s Janika Sprunger and Bonne Chance CW are forced to miss out on Friday’s individual final in Rio. Only three riders from the same nation can participate in the individual final, open to the 35 best after the three first days of competition.

All four Swiss riders – Janika Sprunger, Romain Duguet, Martin Fuchs and Steve Guerdat – finished on a nine penalty score after the three first individual qualifiers and Chef d’Equipe Andy Kistler was left with the near-impossible choice to let one of them go.

On her official Facebook page, Sprunger wrote the following yesterday:

“With a great round today Bonnie and me are finishing this Olympic Games 2016 in Rio.

I wished sooo much to get a spot at Friday's individual Final - for Kompi and for all the people supporting and believing in us!!!! This was my biggest dream, my biggest goal......

All of us Swiss riders were on a standing of 9p after today! A pre decision had to be taken by Andy Kistler to chose the three Swiss riders going into the Final (so are the rules) - this didn’t include Bonnie and me. A very hard moment for us as Bonnie and me REALLY deserved a chance on Friday - but so do the others...!”
