The Goresbridge Go For Gold Sale took place yesterday evening (November 11th) with the auction taking place in the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey. The Supreme Sale of Showjumpers took place on Tuesday (November 10th) evening. The viewing of horses began on Monday 9th of November at Barnadown Equestrian Centre and saw over 100 horses put through their paces.

Tuesday’s auction saw the Irish Sport Horse Dougie Douglas set a new Irish record for public auction by selling for €1.4 million at the Goresbridge Supreme Sale of Showjumpers. The Nations Cup showjumper, competed by Holly Gillott and jointly owned by the rider and Graham Smith, has represented Great Britain in a number of Nations’ Cups in the last two years. The 10-year-old liver chesnut gelding, by Ard VDL Douglas out of the High Roller dam Neills Girl, was purchased by Irish agent Barry O’Connor for an American client.

Alexander Butler and Neal Fearon’s 7-year-old prospect Dekato was sold for €250,000 to Michael Drea of Great Britain as a mount for his daughter, show jumper Jessie Drea. The 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse Javas Wild Child by VDL Douglas was also purchased by Michael Drea, for €80,000. The last lot of the auction was another first for public auction in Ireland where an embryo out of 2014 Goresbridge sales graduate Ard Ginger Pop was purchased for €50,000 by Barry O’Connor on behalf of a European client .

The 2015 “Go For Gold” sale recorded the highest ever clearance rate recorded at a Gorsebridge public auction of 85%. The evening kicked off with lot no1, a 10 year old Irish Sport Horse mare by Hermes De Reve owned and bred by Anne Bannon. The mare was purchased by Irish Olympian Joseph Murphy for €85,000. Just three lots later the Irish Sport Horse Peruising previously campaigned by Oliver Townend (GBR) at advanced level was sold to Carol Gee. The top three year-old on the night was lot 43, a gelding by Ramiro B bought for €43,000 by Richard Sheane. The Go For Gold Sale generated sales of over 1 million in sales throughout Wednesday's auction.

Elaine Hatton, Horse Sport Ireland’s Director of International Marketing, speaking about the sales said; The Goresbridge Supreme Sale of Showjumpers & Go For Gold Eventing Sale was, as expected, a resounding success,” “Credit must be given to Goresbridge Sales and their selectors for compiling an all-round quality catalogue which attracted buyers from the UK, America, Europe and beyond in numbers. The results throughout the sale underpin the high standard of sport horse production found in Ireland. With clearance rates of up to 85% it emphasizes the fact that Ireland is a destination of choice for any buyer looking for quality and value.”

Martin Donoghue of Goresbridge Horse Sales said; “I’m over the moon for Goresbridge sales to sell Dougie Douglas for a whopping 1.4million euro - a new record high for public auction in Ireland. It is a fantastic shot in the arm for Ireland's breeders and producers. This sale was a long time coming along and was the first of its kind. It was a huge success with generated sales from both auctions of approximately 3.2million. The Go For Gold Sales also set a record high with clearance rates reaching over 85%.”
