After what must have been one of the most difficult weeks of Douglas Lindelöw’s life, his top horse Casello has been sold to Ludger Beerbaum.

”It is with both sadness and happiness that I write this. Sadness as Casello and I now will go our separate ways after 10 years together. Happiness as Casello now will continue his career with one of the world's best and most successful riders; Ludger Beerbaum. At least, Casello gets justice in this tragic situation. When it was without doubt that we would not be able to keep Casello, the first thought for me was to secure that he would get a good home. I am extremely touched and grateful for the enormous support I have received and I wish that you show the same support to Ludger and Casello in the ring,” Douglas wrote in a message this morning.

On the phone, it was a very emotional Lindelöw who was fighting with the tears. ”I am glad that the auction planned for today has been cancelled. We have reached an agreement with Casello’s co-owners to sell the horse to Ludger, something we have been fighting hard for when it became clear that we would not be able to buy Casello out ourselves.”

The conflict around the ownership on Casello reached new heights the past week, with the co-owners of the horse pushing to sell the 12-year-old gelding by Casall x Carolus – but refusing the offers from the Lindelöw-family who wanted to buy the horse out to secure him for Douglas.

The pair was one of the hottest candidates to participate at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio for Sweden, but now Casello will fly the German flag instead.
