Belgium’s successful showjumper Pieter Devos and the 11-year-old Espoir took home the victory in yesterday evening’s CSI5* ‘KBC Bank & Verzekering’ 1.50m at Jumping Mechelen. Starting as second to last in the jump-off, Pieter Devos beat Laura Renwick’s time by over three seconds while last to go Jérôme Guery came close and finished as runner-up.

As one of the first competitors in the jump-off counting 15 combinations, the young Belgian rider Jeroen Appelen took the lead with his 9-year-old Aikido Z (Accardi x Corrado I): 0/33.53 seconds. No one is safe when Great-Britain’s leading lady-rider Laura Renwick enters the ring and she took over the lead with Bintang II (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Orlando) in 33.29 seconds.

None of those to come could match Laura Renwick’s time, only Italy’s Luca Maria Moneta and Belgium’s superstar Olivier Philippaerts were faster against the clock but both had an unlucky rail.

As penultimate starter Pieter Devos gave all it took, to conquer the five-star 1.50m class in front of his home crowd. The Nekkerhal witnessed Devos and Espoir (Surcouf de Revel x Laudanum xx) destroy Renwick’s time: 0/30.48 seconds. As last to go Jérôme Guery and his multiple Grand Prix winner Papillon Z (Perhaps van ‘t Molenvondel x Cassini I) gave it an outstanding attempt, but finished second in 30.92 seconds.

No one beats Douglas Lindelöw

In yesterday’s Speed & Handiness 1.45m the successful Swedish rider Douglas Lindelöw could not be beaten. With his experienced 15-year-old mare Talina (Matterhorn x Heidelberg), Lindelöw stopped the clock at 64.21 seconds – a time only Laura Renwick could match. The British specialist against the clock finished in 62.19 seconds with the 10-year-old Rembrandt Blue (Mr. Blue x Super de Bourriere), but one rail down brought her back to 66.19 seconds in total putting her fourth. Austria’s

Max Kühner and 15-year-old Coeur de Lion (Coriano x Cassini I) – Kühner’s mount for the European Championships in Aachen 2015 – took the runner-up spot in 65.73 seconds, while Belgium’s star Pieter Devos and Equipharma Dax van d’Abdijhoeve (Desir du Chateau x Clinton) finished third.

Luca Maria Moneta dominates the podium

Italy’s Luca Maria Moneta was his own rival in yesterday morning’s CSI5* ‘Cavalor’ 1.40m against the clock. With the experienced mount Neptune Brecourt (Cumano x Kayack) Moneta took the victory in 53.76, while he rode his 9-year-old Salomon (Stolzenberg x Aramis) in 58.79 seconds to the second position. Only Ireland’s Denis Lynch could more or less come close to the Italian rider, finishing third with Blue Silver (Balou du Rouet x Goldstern) in 59.47 seconds. Belgium’s Karel Cox and the Netherlands’ Leopold van Asten took home the fourth and fifth position.
