World-class riders such as Daniel Deusser, Gregory Wathelet and Henrik von Eckermann have all secured themselves ownership in their Olympic prospects ahead of the 2016 Games in Rio.

According to FEI regulations, horses entered for the equestrian events at the Olympic Games must have been registered with FEI as property of owners of the same nationality as the athlete, by 15 January 2016. Horses with multinational ownership, must also have been registered with FEI by 15 January 2016 under the name of the nation for which the horse will compete during the Olympic Games.

Due to this regulation, many riders hoping for a ticket to Rio are now registered as co-owners on their top horses. Gregory Wathelet's no. one ride Conrad de Hus, Daniel Deusser’s ride Cornet d’Amour, Marlon Zanotelli’s ride Rock’n Roll Semilly, Henrik von Eckermann’s ride Sansibar, and Ben Maher’s ride Diva II are all among those who got new co-ownerships and a change of nationality ahead of the transfer deadline that closed on Friday.
