2017 European Championships

After a hugely successful 2016 Longines FEI World Cup Final, the organizers in Gothenburg now look forward to hosting the 2017 FEI European Championships.

In August next year, Gothenburg will be filled with equestrian activities during seven exciting days. The Europeans will be staged in the city center, with events at the famous Ullevi Stadium – which is close to Scandinavium Arena, at Heden village and at Slottsskogen city park.

In a presentation to the press on Monday, the organizing committee explained how they will use the space. “In Scandinavium we will use the same stable set up as now, because we know how to so we might just as well do it that way. The rest of stables will be in connection to the Valhalla arena in between Ullevi and Scandinavium,” explained Tomas Torgersen about how everything will be close together. “Ullevi will be the stadium for the jumping and the dressage, so it will be sport there from Tuesday through Sunday. Then we have the Heden village – it is a very big and open area. It is very flexible and use the space as chose, and it will be the arena for the driving and para dressage. The fair ground and fan zone will also be there.”

Normally, Ullevi Stadium caters for the likes of big rock stars – and host 75 000 people. But, for the Europeans it will be made slightly more cosy and intimate with 25 000 seats to watch jumping and dressage.
