Three of Germany’s showjumpers on the long-list for Rio de Janeiro will not be able to attend the Olympics, including Cornet d’Amour and Codex One. “Cornet d’Amour and Codex One are in training again after minor injuries, but they are not ready to compete at the last observation show at CHIO Aachen,” Chef d’Equipe Otto Becker states in a press release of the German Federation (FN).

Cornet d’Amour (Cornet Obolensky x Damiani) and Codex One (Contendro I x Glückspilz) were Daniel Deusser’s and Christian Ahlmann’s first choice for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next month, but both riders are still listed with a second or even third horse on the long-list. Daniel Deusser has the gelding First Class van Eckelghem (Balou du Rouet x Calvaro Z), while Christian Ahlmann has both Taloubet Z (Galoubet A x Polydor) and Epleaser van ‘t Heike (For Pleasure x Nabab de Rêve) as a potential Olympic mount.

Besides Cornet d’Amour and Codex One, Mario Stevens and Brooklyn (Balou du Rouet x Arpeggio) will not be able to make it to Rio. Mario Stevens, who was included in the B-squad for Germany, attented the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Falsterbo last Friday, but had to withdraw Brooklyn out of CHIO Aachen at the last moment.

“We were hoping until the very last minute that both Cornet d’Amour and Codex One would be ready for Rio. This is a great disappointment obviously. Both horses are experienced championship horses,” Otto Becker says. “But luckily both Daniel and Christian do have another potential horse for the Olympic Games.”
