Steve Guerdat grabbed the victory in the Gold Cup presented by Salon du Cheval Paris / CENECA at the Longines Masters of Paris on Saturday night.
The Swiss rider was one of 25 in a field of 41 that produced a clear over the first round track in this CSI5* 1.50m class moving on to the winning round. With so many riders in, the second round against the clock was bound to be a real race where the 2012 Olympic Champion was the fastest one on the 10-year-old mare Albführen's Happiness (Heartbeat x Lambrusco Ask). The win did not come with the tiniest of margins either, as Guerdat had no less than two seconds down to runner-up Daniel Deusser (GER) aboard Sweet de Beaufour (Diamant de Semilly x Kannan).
Another second behind Deusser followed Jerome Guery (BEL), riding Alicante (Casall x Indoctro) to third place while Bertram Allen (IRL) was fourth on Izzy By Picobello (Cicero Z x Capriano) and Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) fifth on H&M Challenge v. Begijnakker Z ( Chellano Z x Palestro v. Begijnakker).
