The FEI Children’s International Classics Final concluded yesterday with the Farewell Competition and the Final Competition. These classes wrapped up an exhilarating week for youths ages 12-14 from thirteen different countries.  ll non-Mexican competitors rode horses they picked in a draw earlier in the week, making for some quick bonding and putting their catch riding skills to the test. 

Carlos Rodolfo Molina (MEX) and Ferry were the only double-clear in a jump-off of four in the Final Competition, earning him the top spot on the podium and the title of FEI Children’s International Classics Final Champion.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Farewell Competition offered the sixteen riders who did not advance to the final round a chance to compete in one more class. Seven of the sixteen jumped clear rounds, but it was Mauricio Neumann Priess (MEX) and Corlinus who stopped the clock nearly two seconds faster than the second place finisher for the win.

Of the four who advanced to the jump-off in the Final Competition, two represented Mexico, one Germany and one Brazil. Racing through the timers fault-free in 35.20, Molina scored the win. “I feel very proud. I didn’t imagine this moment. I am very excited to be here,” he said. “I am also happy to pass a very good weekend with my friends and to be competing with other riders from other countries.”

Taking home second place, Lorenzo Mills Hegewisch (MEX) and Caruschka blazed around the shortened course in an impressive 31.68, the fastest by nearly four seconds, but had the first fence down. Hegewisch did have the advantage of a two-year partnership with his horse, but  nevertheless the Final was a thrill for the thirteen-year-old show jumper. “It was incredible. It was really good experience for me and for all my friends and family, and I’m really happy,” he said.

Lilli Collee (GER) and the stallion Campanola Chaco also incurred four faults in the jump-off, stopping the clock in 35.37 to pick up third place. Collee praised the equine partner she had been paired with for the week, noting his bravery. Collee’s top placing was an excellent addition to her fourteenth birthday, which she celebrated today here in Guadalajara.

This Final concluded the 2016 season of the FEI Children’s International Classics. The 2017 season will begin at venues all over the world in March 2017.
