The CSI5* event at the majestic Al Shaqab facility in Doha, Qatar, started on Thursday. The main five-star class of the day was a Table A against the clock with 92,000 Euros of prize money to share. The 1.50m course designed by Frank Rothenberger counted 12 obstacles and 14 efforts, and the time allowed was set to 76 seconds.

The first to go in the class was Roger-Yves Bost (FRA) on Quod'Couer de La Loge (Ideal de La Loge x Tenor de La Cour), who raced through the course setting the time to beat to 58,04 seconds. Nearly all the way to the end of the class it seemed as no one could beat the French-man's time. Daniel Deusser (GER) on Happiness Van't Paradijs (Obourg x Quick Lauro Z) set the quickest time of the day, clocking an unbelievable time of 56,00 seconds – but an unfortunate one pole down on the last fence left the pair in 15th place in the end.

Bosty led the way from first to go until the second last of 41 starters in total. Then came Bertram Allen (IRL) on Molly Malone V (Kannan x Cavalier) and took home the win as well as the first prize of 23,000 Euros from Bosty's hands with their time of 57,70 seconds. With the tiniest margins, Pius Schwizer (SUI) on Balou Rubin R (Balou du Rouet x Couleur Rubin) took the third place with a time of 58,06 seconds, Abdelkebir Ouaddar (MAR) on Quickly de Kreisler (Diamant de Semilly x Laudanum) placed fourth with a time of 58,16 seconds, Kevin Staut (FRA) on Elky van het Indihof HDC (Toulon x Thunder Vd Zuuthoeve) placed fifth with a time of 58,48 seconds.

"It was a very fast class and I am very happy to have won," Bertram Allen said after the prize giving ceremony. "I think Molly likes it here. Last year she was third in this class and she has always jumped great here. I like coming to Doha, the facilities are just unbelievable - it is really quite a special show."

Earlier in the afternoon the first five-star class of the event, a 1.45m two phases, was won by Abdelkebir Ouddar (MAR) on Cordano Sitte Z (Carthago Z x Major de La Cour) with a double clear round in a time of 28,94 seconds. Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) on Chacanno (Chaco-Blue x Kannan) came second with a time of 29,41 seconds and home rider Bassem Hassan Mohammed (QAT) on Argelith Squid (Salito x Gibraltar) took the third place with a time of 30,31 seconds. Two Italians followed on the fourth and fifth place, as Emanuele Gaudiano on Caspar (Berlin x Padarco) ended with a time of 30,52 and Piergiorgio Pucci on Heartbreaker Vd Achterhoe (Bentley van de Heffinck x Catango Z) stopped the clock in 30,59 seconds.
