Nigel Coupe (GBR) and Golvers Hill (Ricardo Z x Clover Hill) won the second qualifier for the Hamburg Derby, which will take place on Sunday. Friday's qualification was long and demanding – with Coupe having the winning time of 102.13 seconds – but still nine riders cleared the course.

Second place went to Holger Wulschner (GER) with BSC Cavity (Caretino x Lansing) that had a tome of 104.70 seconds and third place to Andre Thieme (GER) with Contadur (Conteros x Kolibri) in 105.17 seconds. Also the following five spots went to German riders: Kai Rüder on Cross Keys (Casall x Sunset Boulevard xx), Benjamin Wulschner on La Darca (Landos x Darco), Thomas Voss on Chando (Con Air x Quintero), Janne-Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann on Cellagon Anna (Asca x Contendro I) and Philipp Makowei on Chelsea (Cassaro x Carthago). Ninth place went to British rider William Whitaker with Glenavadra Brilliant (Brilliant Lad x Powerswood Purple).

“We had a good day, today was my day! And I hope I will end up here on the press conference on Sunday as well. Glovers Hill is an Irish horse and he is 14 now. He is a genuine horse, is easy and wants to be in the prize giving, which I think is a very nice quality. He jumps a lot of clear rounds. And I must say that the crowd here in Hamburg is fantastic, they are applauding and cheering and are just great,” said Coupe after his win and continued: “He is a good horse for the derby. He seems to be good the way I do it; mixing three and four-star shows and some derbies.”

The 32 best horse-and-rider combinations from the two qualifications will be able to take part in the derby on Sunday. This will be the 88th derby in Hamburg, and the course consists of 17 fences and 26 jumps. The course hasn’t been changed for all these years; it has just been made a bit safer for the horses and riders.
