The veterinary inspections for the Longines FEI European Championships 2017 were completed today in Gothenburg, Sweden.
81 jumping horses were presented for the trot-up, that passed by without much drama apart from the fact that Michael Whitaker’s (GBR) Viking is scheduled for re-inspection at 08.00 tomorrow morning.
Trotting up right next to the famous Ullevi Stadium in glorious sunshine, it was the host team of Sweden that stood out, with all team riders wearing matching suits – and a huge smile. "Having the Europeans here at home is something very special, so we must make the most of it," Malin Baryard-Johnsson said.
A total of 17 nations – Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Sweden and Ukraine – will compete for the jumping team title while 13 individuals from another nine countries – Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Israel, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia and Turkey – are also lining up for the individual honours.
