After ten years working for Michael Whitaker, Joe Clayton has decided to set up his own business. Initially, Clayton will run his stables from his family home in Yorkshire.

During his time with Michael Whitaker, Clayton has made eleven Nations Cup appearances for Great Britain and has recorded placings all the way up to five-star level.

“I would like to say a big thanks to Michael and Melissa for the last ten years that I have spent with them and the family, it has been a fantastic experience,” says the 27-year-old to World of Showjumping. “I have been given many great opportunities at Michael’s yard, and have worked with some great owners and found some top sponsors.”

“I am looking forward to build up a strong team of horses for the future. I already have a very good homebred 9-year-old mare called Cally V that was double clear in the Queens Cup at Hickstead this year, and I have high hopes for her. I also have a couple of good owners with some nice young horses coming through,” Clayton says. “I plan to do a couple of shows abroad before Christmas and then the plan is to get ready for a tour in the early spring. I of course hope to welcome new owners, sponsors and investors to my team,” Clayton concludes.
