In January and February, Scott Brash’s Hello Mr. President picked up three Grand Prix victories at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva Nova, Spain. Looking like the next big thing for Brash, we sat down with the British rider to learn more about his 9-year-old Comme d’Api VD Hacienda-son that looks to have a pretty bright future ahead of him.

“I was doing a clinic in Belgium, and Olivier Seynhaeve brought Mr. President there. Then he was a 6-year-old, and that is where I saw him the first time,” Scott tells. “He was in one of the groups that I was teaching there. I saw him do the exercises and I really liked him, so I asked if he would be for sale. It was obvious to me that he was very careful,” Scott continues. “He was a bit spooky though, which is something he can still be. He was a good model of a horse and I liked the way he worked out the things there at the clinic. And although he was a little sharp, he seemed to have a good brain and that attracted me to him, really.”

Having picked up multiple victories during the Spring MET 2018 in Oliva Nova, Scott is now going to give Hello Mr. President some time off. “My plan is to go home now and let him have a short break and then I think I will do one more two-star show with him,” Scott explains. “Then I am looking at the possibility to bring him to Shanghai as my second horse. But first I will see how the next show goes. My long-term plan with him is to make him a part of my string of horses, and keep producing him. I hope to turn him into a top Grand Prix horse; I think he has all the qualities you need in a showjumper.

I still feel that he has some things to improve and to develop in order to become a five star Grand Prix horse – but I am very happy with where he is just now and his progression and I am extremely excited what the future holds for him.”
