From 1 to 3 November, the focus will again be on Holsteiner horses at the Neumünster Holstenhalls, with 65 colts presented for stallion grading and 41 auction horses looking for new owners.

Dr. Jörgen Köhlbrandt and his Holsteiner Verband Marketing and Auction GmbH team have travelled across Holstein and all of Germany to select the lots for the 2018 elite riding horse auction. 41 promising Holsteiners between three and seven years of age have finally made it into the catalogue. Their pedigrees are diverse, even though one stallion is the most frequent sire, represented by seven offspring: Cascadello I, ahead of his sire Casall, who is sending three of his progeny. The stallions Casalito, Cassini I and Uriko have two offspring at auction, each.

“Also this year, we have again put together a very good collection, ranging from still inexperienced green horses with exceptional free-jumping ability through youngsters with S placings to get up and go“,executive director Dr. Jörgen Köhlbrandt is proud to report.

A half brother to American Laura Kraut’s newly crowned World Champion, Zeremonie by Cero I-Quick Star is certainly one of the gems of this selection. He is five years old and called Captain Morgen and by Centurion, a Calido I grandson. And his maternal sire, Cero, is a direct Calido offspring, as well.

But there are more interesting half siblings up for sale, like for example a half sister to former auction horse Dacara (by Cancara/Cassandra Orschel). Cortina by Cormint-Caretino excels in free jumping. The same can be said about a Numero Uno daughter out of half sister to Quintano (ridden by Alexa Stais). “We have put together a very balanced lot with a broad high-quality basis“, Köhlbrandt is happy to state.

Contagio by Colman (Gerrit Nieberg), Cascadello by Casall (Dirk Ahlmann), Chichester by Casall (Alonso Valdez Prado), Camalita by Cracker Jack (Laura Klapphake), Dito by Diarado (Chris Chugg), Capital Colnardo by Colman (Harrie Smolders) or Deike by Diarado (Anna Siemer) are just a few of the many former Holsteiner auction horses which have embarked on a (inter-)national sport horse career.

The auction horses will be publicly presented for the first time on 16 October from 6:00 pm at the Elmshorn Fritz-Thiedemann-hall. Naturally, the horses may be tried out afterwards.

65 colts presented for stallion grading

This year’s group of stallion candidates is again very much under the influence of the Cor de la Bryère sire line. Around one-third of the colts carry the Caretino blood through his son Casall and the latter’s son, Cascadello I. The remaining two-thirds show a comparatively great genetic variety. “Due to the many outside blood improvement stallions bred on a trial basis we have now got quite a lot of new, promising genes. I’m thinking of Vagabond de la Pomme, Kannan, same as some sires already proven in our studbook, like Diamant de Semilly or Cornet Obolensky, who is being represented by six offspring“, breeding director Dr. Thomas Nissen said after the pre-selection. Most gratifyingly, also a young stallion like Baloubet du Rouet son Brantzau is represented by three colts in this year’s selection. Colts by Livello, Lord Z and Levisto will represent the L sire line, which is no longer as influential as it used to be in Holstein, at Neumünster. What is more, as four of the colts boast “very obvious dual ability“ even though they carry Holsteiner jumping blood, they will also be presented on a lunge line during the grading.

Same as last year, videos of the colts put to sale after the grading will be available online prior to the auction. X-rays may be downloaded. ”It went down well with our customers, so we will do it again”, was Dr.Jörgen Köhlbrandt’s logic conclusion.

So no matter if you are looking for a jumping horse to compete with the next season, a graded stallion, or a non-graded colt – the Holsteiner Verband Neumünster auction is the right place to go in any case. The Holsteiner Verband Marketing and Auction GmbH team around Dr. Jörgen Köhlbrandt is looking forward to hearing from you.
