Save the date: January 19th, the ‘BWP Top Stallion Auction’ will take place in the equestrian centre ‘Azelhof’ (Aarschotsesteenweg 201, B-2500 Koningshooikt, Lier). It’s a unique opportunity to buy top stallions, born out of top dam lines. The BWP belongs worldwide to the best suppliers of showjumpers that perform at the highest level. And that’s not by coincidence. In the past, BWP breeders imported the best genetic material mainly form the Netherlands, France and Germany and started to mix it in a smart way. That’s how they managed to construct proven performance lines, the keys of success. The fact that BWP-showjumpers remain playing a mayor role in the international showjumping scene has not gone unnoted. Things have come to such a pass that foreign investors, sports stables, stallion keepers, riders and studbooks come over to Belgium in order to buy BWP-showjumpers. Times have changed.

Those who want to buy a stallion on the occasion of the ‘BWP Top Stallion Auction’ are certainly not buying a pig in a poke. These stallions succeeded in the first phase of the BWP stallion approval, which means that they satisfied the severe veterinary examination. And there is even more: the stallions have to pass successfully the second day of the second phase in order to participate at the live auction. The auction stallions that are not selected get the chance to be sold online, January 19-21.

In total 31 stallions have been announced for this edition of the ‘BWP Top Stallion Auction’. You can find the complete collection on the BWP website, including videos and extra information about the dam lines. If you are interested, you can contact the commercial advisors Sven Bols (+32 495 551 405) and Tom Van De Vijver (+32 476 442 185). If you have questions about the organisation and administration, then you can call Lieve De Greeff (+32 497 538 982). Veterinary advice can be given on the spot in ‘Azelhof’, on January 18thor January 19that the auction secretariat.

It is not possible to describe all auction stallions in this article. However, we want to spotlight some of these stallions, with the focus on the dam lines. The person who buys for instance Quel Torreo T will be the proud owner of a grandson of Narcotique de Muze IV (by Quidam de Revel). Narcotique herself performed at international 1m50 level and makes a valuable contribution to the BWP dam line 34. She produced several international showjumpers, amongst them Jenson van ’t Meulenhof (5*, 1m60 level, Niels Bruynseels), Iron Lady van ’t Meulenhof (3-4*, Keith Shore) and Darcotique van ’t Meulenhof (3*, 1m50 level, Marjan De Wachter). Narcotique de Muze IV is also the dam of several approved stallions, such as Denzel, Jenson and Iron Man van ’t Meulenhof.

The stable name ‘ter Putte’ is famous in the world of international showjumping and breeding. Several examples: the BWP elite stallion Elvis ter Putte (in 2012 he performed already at 5*-level under the saddle of Karline De Brabander and end 2017 he was still jumping at international 4*-level), the approved/sports stallion Favorit ASK (ex-Favorit ter Putte, who performs at international 1m45 level, in partnership with Soren Moeller Rohde) and EIS Isaura (ex-Isaura ter Putte, 5*, 1m60 level, Cameron Hanley). Elvis, Favorit and Isaura were all born out of Ukase ter Putte (by Darco). Ukase ter Putte is the grandmother of the auction stallion Quick-Star ter Putte. The international showjumper Skyhorse (ex-Happy Day ter Putte) who participates under the saddle of Lillie Keenan at World Cup classes, five star classes etc. also belongs to this performance family.

Thanks to Qualisto one can get the performance blood of the BWP dam line 78 in his stable. His dam, Charlette, produced for instance Herodes (by Chatman) who became the 2013 champion of the six-year-old showjumpers in Lummen. Charlette is also the dam of Ponolette (by Quint VH Maarlo) who won the free jumping competition for three-year-old horses on the occasion of the 2018 BWP Breeding Day. Several approved stallions, such as Charivari Biolley, Chacco Me Biolley and Ubergraaf D belong to this performance family, as well as several international Grand Prix showjumpers, amongst them Baggio (performed at 5*-level, in partnership with Aniek Poels), Jenco DW (performs at 3 and 4*-level, Jos Verlooy) and Blue Thunder (jumped at international 5*-level). Several international dressage and eventing horses also make part of this versatile BWP dam line.

The wide-spread Holstein performance family 18a2 is also represented in the auction collection, thanks to Q-Mandor. His dam, Kyrah, is a half-sister to four international showjumpers, namely Logo (by Lavall, 5*, 1m60 level), Rarität 13 (by Carnute, 5*, 1m60 level), Calore van de Helle (by Casall, 5*, 1m60 level) and Zimona van de Helle (by Crawford, 1m60 level). Lalique II, a half-sister to Kyrah, produced several approved stallions, amongst them Colicchio and Casalito. In the dam lines of the auction stallions we find some more Holstein performance families, such as 2666, 6879, 890 and 2004. Those who like Hanoverian dam lines will also discover several rare pearls in the collection.

Quando van de Zandhoeve/de Moerhoeve/JW is another example of focusing on performance families. His dam line produced several international performers, such as Aertbreaker (sporting name: BV Projects Edinburgh, 5*, Miguel Maron Kahwagi) and his full brother Bamiro (Fabienne Daigneux-Lange, 1m60 level), as well as Flyer (3*-4*, 1m50 level, Mario Stevens), Quapitola de Beaufour (4*, 1m60 level) and Sweet de Beaufour (who performed at international 5*-level, in partnership with several riders, amongst them Daniel Deusser and Marlon Modolo Zanotelli). This is only a small part of the complete collection of auction stallions that belong to proven dam lines. You can discover the other ones on the BWP website. There is a wide variety: not only BWP and German performance families, but also French and Dutch proven families.
