Thank you

At the age of 18, Michael Whitaker’s Viking (Jacomar x Almox Prints) has been retired from the sport.

With Whitaker in the saddle, the chestnut gelding jumped on the gold medal winning British team at the European Championships in Herning, Denmark in 2013. He was also Whitaker’s partner at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen, France as well as at two Longines FEI Nations Cup Finals and one Longines FEI World Cup Final.

Together, Viking and Whitaker recorded victories in the CSI4* 1.60m Bunn Leisure Derby Trial at Hickstead in 2017, the CSIO5* 1.50 Prize Longines in St. Gallen in 2017, the  CSI5* 1.55m LGCT in Madrid in 2016, the CSI5* 1.60m Grand Prix at Olympia in 2015, the CSI5* 1.60m Grand Prix in Oslo in 2014, the CSI5* 1.60m LGCT Grand Prix in Madrid in 2013 as well as in the CSI5* 1.60m Cana Cup at Spruce Meadows in 2012. The pair has numerous five-star Grand Prix and World Cup podium finishes to look back at, from Den Bosch, Estoril, Hong Kong, Knokke, London, Rome, Shanghai, Spruce Meadows, St. Moritz and Valencia – to mention some.

With this photo special, we look back at some of many highlights in Viking’s career as we wish him a happy retirement.
