Saturday was the day of the Swedes at the Sunshine Tour in Vejer da la Frontera, Spain. The biggest class of the day, the CSI4* 1.50m Tío Pepe Trophy – which counted as a Grand Prix qualifier and for the world ranking – went to Douglas Lindelöw and Casco Blue (Chacco-Blue x Carthago Z) followed by Angelie Von Essen on Cochella (Cartani 4 x Lord) with 0.31 seconds separating the two Swedish riders. The class had no less than 93 entries, and only 11 cleared the course set by Elena Boix from Spain. “It was tough, but this is how it should be when there are riders of such a high level competing here,” Lindelöw commented after his win.

Last Sunday, Lindelöw and Casco Blue finished third in the CSI4* Equine America Grand Prix class and today they followed up with a win in the qualifier. “Casco Blue is number one in my stables. He has been with me for eight years and he is now eleven. Together we have had some great results,” Lindelöw said. 

As to the goals for the 2021-season, Lindelöw commented: “I hope to take part in the European Championships.”

Third place in the Tío Pepe Trophy went to Great Britain’s Jack Whitaker on Scenletha (Scendix x Contendra I), followed by Dutch rider Willem Greve on Carambole (San Patrignano Cassini x Concerto) in fourth and Belgium's Jerome Guery on Grupo Prom Diego (Verdi TN x Gran Corrado) in fifth. 

Earlier in the day, Swedish rider Alexander Zetterman and the 9-year-old stallion Triton Hästak (Cabachon x Winningmood) won the CSI4* 1.45m Small Grand Prix YouHorse Trophy – also counting for the world ranking. This was another tough class with 92 competitors taking to the grass in the Hickstead arena. Only 11 horses jumped clear and moved on to the jump-off, where Zetterman was the quickest with a time of 36.85 seconds. Home rider Sira Martínez Cullell and Mano Negra van de Bucxtale (Mylord Carthago x Concorde) ended second with a time of 37.10, while third place went to Great Britain's William Funnell on Billy Alpen (Cardento x Animo).
