Julien Epaillard continued his winning streak at Hubside Jumping in Grimaud, France, on Saturday with a triple of wins – first in the CSI2* 1.45m, then in the CSI4* 1.45m and then in the CSI4* 1.50m. Safe to say, the French rider was unbeatable.

In the CSI2* 1.45m counting for the Longines Ranking, Epaillard had chosen a horse which recently joined his string – Billabong du Roumois (Mylord Carthago x Papillon Rouge*Normandie). With a time of 35.11 seconds, Epaillard beat Germany's Christian Ahlmann on Nachito V / D Ketse (Quality Time x Baloubet du Rouet) by 1.75 seconds. Benoît Cernin and Call Me de Malotithe (Dollar Dela Pierre x Qredo de Paulstra) finished third, two seconds behind Epaillard.

For the CSI4* 1.45m – also counting for the Longines Ranking – Epaillard saddled up Solero MS (Silvio I x Espri), again a horse that recently arrived in the stables of the French rider. The couple again finished ahead of Christian Ahlmann, this time riding Calvino 16 (Castelan II x Literat 12), and Italian rider Giulia Martinengo Marquet on Calle Deluxe (Cesano 2 x Con Air 7). Two French riders finished in fourth and fifth; Aymeric de Ponnat on Elize (Bamako de Muze x Nabab de Reve) and Alexa Ferrer on Gracieux du Pachis (Tinka's Boy x Caretino).

In the CSI4* 1.50m, Julien Epaillard rode his faithful partner Usual Suspect d'Auge (Jarnac x Papillon Rouge). Epaillard was again in a league of his own with a time of 58.62 seconds, leaving Irishman Michael Duffy on RMF Charly to runner-up position with a time of 62.30 seconds. Olivier Perreau finished third aboard Chrysolite Fonroy (Scareface de Mars x Clown du Chesnay).

"I couldn't watch Aymeric de Ponnat's jump-off, who was in first place on the provisional standings at the time, but saw that Brazilian Eduardo Pereira De Menezes made six strides between fences no. 1 and 2: I noticed that he took them out quite easily and so I gave it a try too," Epaillard said about his strategy for the CSI4* 1.45m jump-off. "I think I saved some precious time here: Anyway, no one else tried it. You can't really say that I work on speed at home, I only work it in the ring: The horses also get used to turn quickly when asked regularly. If I was just doing training rounds and suddenly I asked a horse to go fast, the result wouldn't be the same. And personally, I am not fan of training rounds," Epaillard laughed.

"Let's say it was a good day," Epaillard continued when speaking about the last win of the day. "Usual hasn't done much lately. I started him up last weekend in Cabourg where he jumped three 1.40m classes: He had not been out for about a month and a half. In Cabourg, he was not too in the game, but as the competition progressed, I felt him more in shape. Here, at the Hubside Jumping in Grimaud-Golfe de Saint-Tropez, he got four faults on the first day on the last fence in the 1.45m; today, I felt that he had really picked up very well. He will jump two more classes next weekend, and I hope he will be ready for Paris, a competition that he likes and where he has already won the Grand Prix."
