Press release from Split Rock Jumping Tour

The Split Rock Jumping Tour (SRJT) returned to Brave Horse Ohio for the Columbus International, kicking off on Wednesday, October 6th with a schedule full of top hunter and jumper competition. Featuring a CSI2* rating, the highlighted class on Friday was the $37,000 Restylane 1.45m FEI Welcome, where Santiago Lambre (BRA) emerged victorious with The Diamant Rose Z (Toulon x Jaunty Dardevil) after mastering Bernardo Costa Cabral’s 15-effort course to best a field of 37 starters. Finishing in second was Great Britain’s Jessica Mendoza aboard Dublin (Cobra 18 x Calido I), with the USA’s Kristen Vanderveen rounding out the podium aboard Bull Run’s Prince of Peace (Cardenio 2 x Contender).

The 1.45m course challenged horse-and-rider combinations, and ultimately eleven pairs were able to navigate the track fault-free. Mendoza (GBR) and Play were the first pair to produce a clear round, while Lambre quickly followed with his fault-free ride to guarantee an exciting jump-off. Seven of the eleven pairs presented double-clear efforts, making it a race to the finish line. Mendoza set the pace in 37.81 seconds, but was quickly topped by Lambre, who cleared the 8-effort short course in a blazing time of 34.10 seconds. While Mendoza, Vanderveen and the USA’s Nicholas Dello Joio were all less than one second behind him in their efforts, Lambre’s time maintained through the remainder of the jump-off competition to hold victorious.

Competition at the Columbus International CSI2* will continue throughout the weekend, featuring the $10,000 1.20 Final and $15,000 ESI Footing 1.30m on Saturday. The final day of competition on Sunday will be highlighted by the $20,000 Restylane 1.35m National Prix and $100,000 Grand Prix CSI2*.
