Close-Up

Argento

Next out in our WoSJ Close-Up series is John Whitaker’s winning partner Argento. All photos © Jenny Abrahamsson.

Argento
Argento was born on the 16th of June in 2002.

Argento
He is registered in the Anglo European Studbook.

Argento
Argento is by Arko III out of the Gasper-mare Flora May.

Argento
His father Arko III had huge success with Nick Skelton in the saddle, and Argento was one of his first offspring.

Argento
John got Argento when he was four years old, and the Whitakers broke him in themselves.

Argento
John’s daughter Louise rode him for two years, and John took over the reins when was seven.

Argento
John has described Argento as super careful, but also brave and honest.

Argento
“We didn’t push him too much to win as a young horse. Because he was always so careful, I tried to give him nice experiences. Until today I focus on keeping him happy and confident, because he’s so careful,” John has said in an interview with the AES.

Argento
“Argento always tries his best, he’s really competitive – and I know if I get to the jump-off I have a good chance!” John has said of the stallion.

Argento
Last year two of Argento’s sons proved themselves. Arwento was fully licensed with Breeders elite studbook, and Areba was fully graded and licensed with the AES.

Argento
Argento has countless Grand Prix wins, from Hong Kong, Hagen, Treffen, München, Amsterdam, Geesteren, Odense, Liege – and has also won several other classes together with Whitaker.
