Aachen Day Two; B is for Beerbaum

Wednesday, 13 July 2011

Meredith and Shutterfly. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. It was Beerbaum-day in Aachen today, as Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and her brother-in-law Ludger topped one class each. Meredith went all the way to the top in the Warsteiner Preis – a 1.55 class – after a double clear on superstar Shutterfly (Silvio I x Forrest xx). The American turned German rider was slightly faster than – who else – than Ludger in the jump-off, leaving him in runner-up position with Chaman (Baloubet du Rouet x I Love You). Laura Kraut was third on her relatively new ride Teirra (Tolano van het Riethof x Aldatus), which she recently won the Charles Stanley British Masters on. All riders in the top three were double clear.

Ludger had already claimed the top prize in the 1.50 class of the day, when he and 15 year old stallion Couleur Rubin (Cordalme Z x Grannus) went all the way to the top. Michael Whitaker – who has been competing at Spruce Meadows in Canada over the last weeks – was second on Ingliston Twister (Tornado x Voltaire). Pius Schwizer was third on Ulysse (Nonstop x Jus de Pomme).
