Advertisement | Increasing number of dressage foals in Limburg Foal Auction

Friday, 19 September 2014

The Limburg Foal Auction will be held in Weert for the 14th time on Wednesday September 24th. The auction is being organised by Stal Hendrix. It is traditionally the last foal auction of the season where, before, mostly jumper foals got sold. However, the number of dressage foals is getting more equal party due to the involvement of Gertjan van Olst as a member of the dressage selection committee.

We interview the horseman from Brabant province and talk about the developments the auction went through the last years. Five dressage foals were auctioned in 2012. The collection counted 70 foals. Last year, the collection consisted of 81 foals of which 20 were dressage foals. But the growth continues; this year's collection of 108 foals counts 39 dressage foals. Van Olst about the increase: "The committee gathered a small number of dressage foals but of a very high quality. The foals all got sold for good prices. That is why more and more breeders got interested to come to Limburg."

Van Olst thinks he knows why more and more buyers of dressage foals come to the Limburg Foal Auction: "The auction is well known for its reasonable prices. Next to that, we offer a broad collection with a wide variety in pedigree. It is not only interesting for people on the search for future sport horses, but also for breeders that are looking for future breeding material can benefit from our auction."

The customers of the Limburg Foal Auction come from all over the world. The unprecedented success of the Dutch horses during the World Equestrian Games, together with the number one ranking of the KWPN play an important role. Van Olst: "People from abroad also know that the numbers of foals born decreased over the last years. There will always be demand for talented youngsters. If you start with foals for a good price, you are one step ahead of everyone. The Limburg Foal Auction is the perfect chance to make that step ahead."
