Another French win in Mechelen

Friday, 28 December 2012

The winning couple - Simon Delestre and Qlassic Bois Margot. Photo by Johan Abrahamsson.Simon Delestre and Qlassic Bois Margot won the Grote Prijs Topsport Vlaanderen Friday evening in Mechelen. The course consisted of 13 fences and the line 6 to 7a and b (a square oxer with four strides to the vertical - oxer combination) and 12 a, b and c (oxer - vertical - oxer) caused most problems. Only seven riders out of the 49 that started cleared the first round and qualified for the jump-off.

Simon Delestre with Qlassic Bois Margot (L'Arc de Triomphe x Galoubet A) was first to go in the jump-off. Simon put on a good speed and cleared the course in 37,56 seconds, which turned out to be impossible to beat so he kept his lead throughout the jump-off.

A speedy jump-off gave Jerome Guery with Upper Star the second place. Photo by Johan Abrahamsson.Roger Yves Bost was supposed to start as the next one in the jump-off with Nippon d'Elle (Scherif d'Elle x Narcos II) but he decided not to start, so instead we got to see Philippe Le Jeune with Carlino STX (Carvallo x Romino). Philippe wanted to give the home crowd a Belgian win but his speed made three poles fall on the way to the finish line. Next out was Pius Schwizer with Verdi III (Hors la Loi II x Cantus). Verdi, who did an amazing first round, started off just as well in the jump-off but the b-element of the second last fence and the last fence fell.

Jerome Guery with Upper Star (Metall x Zeus) was the second home rider in the jump-off and he pleased the audience when he went in on a second place. The next couple that went into the ring is always fast - Hans-Dieter Dreher with Constantin B (Contendro x Espri) - and today was no exception. They ended the course in 36,88 seconds, but four fault stopped their way to a victory.

Denis Lynch's All Star (Argentinus x Alme) looked like he never would land in the first round and he jumped just as high when the speed went up in the jump-off. The pair took over the third place with a clear round. Stephex Stable's Eiken Sato with Espyrante (Obourg x Peuillac de Meia Lua) was last to go and got four faults in the middle of the course - so they had to settle for the fourth place.
