Another triumph for Hickstead and Lamaze

Friday, 10 June 2011

Eric and Hickstead win again in Spruce Meadows - here they are in La Baule. Photo by PSV/Jean Morel.Eric Lamaze and his fantastic stallion Hickstead (Hamlet x Eikstein) continued their smashing form on Thursday, when they won the 1.60 Spectra Energy Cup at the five star show in Spruce Meadows, Canada. The pair has had some very big wins in Europe lately, and took home both the Grand Prix of La Baule and Rome. Yesterday they went all the way to the top in a class that saw only three out of 22 riders through to the jump-off.

Hickstead and Lamaze were the only couple to produce a double clear, although their time was slightly slower than that off McLain Ward and Vocas (Hors La Loi II x Voltaire) – who had to see a pole fall to the ground around the jump-off track. Third place went to Lauren Tisbo – also from the US – on the SF-mare Crème Brulé (Gala Pierville x Kessel II). Tisbo had the fastest time in the jump-off, but had two fences down.
