Ask the groom; Lais van Deventer’s best tips on clipping

Tuesday, 26 November 2013

At this time of year, most horses need a clip – so WoSJ asked Gerco Schröder’s head girl Lais van Deventer about her clipping tips for the best result;

- Use new blades on your machine;

- Make sure you have enough oil on the machine all the time;

- Keep the machine straight, and don’t move it up or down while clipping;

- Clip your horse when it is clean and dry, avoid a sweaty horse;

- Clip in the same direction from start to finish, and work in a system to avoid stripes;

- Wash your horse when you are finished;

- And: Practice, practice, practice.
