Beezie Madden secured a place in the World Cup final yesterday after an exciting jump-off against Margie Engle, The riders were present at the CSI2*-W show in Tampa which was their last chance to qualify for the final.
Engle and Madden were the only clears after round one, and when Engle had one fence down in the jump-off all Madden had to do was secure another clear. Aboard her 15-year-old partner Mademoiselle - Madden entered the arena trying to ride a safe round. But as a fence came down in the combination Madden suddenly had to turn up the speed to be able to make it to Den Bosch in two weeks. Madden crossed the finish line at 42.01 - only 0.65 seconds faster than Engle.
"I think Margie was a little faster in the beginning. My plan was to keep myself in contention if I had a rail down in the beginning, but I was already a little bit into the jump-off by the time I had the rail, it was a good thing I had the end of the ring, " Madden said after the class.
