Behind the scenes at the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Rotterdam - part one

Monday, 23 June 2014

It got very busy in front of the television screen when first rider Denis Lynch entered the ring for Ireland. All photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.

In Rotterdam it is far between the stables and the arena so almost everyone had a bike or moped. Here is Daniel Deusser and the German team-vet Jan Hein Swagemakers speeding down to the stables before the class started.  The guys took their turn driving - Daniel to the stables and Jan Hein to the arena... Axel Verlooy watching his rider Harrie Smolders. Switzerland's super star Castlefield Eclipse waiting for the class to start.  Rolf-Göran Bengtsson's groom Celia was looking forward to watch the class from the grand stands as Sweden didn't have a team in Rotterdam. Carinjo HDC on his way into the arena for the first round.  As always in Rotterdam it started to rain a little so many of the grooms had to race to the stables for the rain blankets.  Time for the first rider on the Dutch team - Jeroen Dubbeldam with Zenith Sfn. Christian Ahlmann tried to keep track of both of the television screen in front of him that showed the rounds and the monitor behind him for the standings.  And he wasn't the only one who wanted to follow the class... CWD's Simon Knops ringside. All the horses go through a short boot-check after their rounds where all boots are taken off - here Rodrigo Pessoa with Status.
