Tuesday, 16 July 2013

Dirk Demeersman has contributed big time to Belgium's top results lately. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.After winning the Nations Cup in Budapest on Friday, Belgium looks set for promotion to the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Europe Division 1 next season – even though there are still four legs of Europe Division 2 to run. Belgium now heads the Europe Division 2 leaderboard with 421 points followed by Sweden in second with 320 and Norway in third with 273. The remaining rounds will take place in Bratislava (SVK) on Friday 2 August, Gijon (ESP) on Friday 30 August, Arezzo (ITA) on Friday 6 September and at Kiev (UKR) on Friday 13 September.

According to the series’ rules, for the 2014 season the NFs (ten) permitted to take part in Division 1 are as follows:

· The European NFs placed first, second and third at the previous year’s Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Final;

· The two best placed NFs on the previous year’s Division 2 standings; if any or both of these two NFs cannot take part in Division 1 the vacant place(s) are filled from the previous year’s Division 1 standings. The same applies if either of these teams is placed 1st to 3rd in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup™ Final;

· The remaining teams will be selected in descending order from the previous year’s Division 1 standings to fill the quota of ten teams.
