The Belgians celebrating their win in Budapest. Photo by Belgian team won the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Europe Division 2 in Budapest, Hungary, on Friday. A total of 14 countries lined up for the competition that in the end turned out as a battle between Belgium and Germany. The performances from the Belgian riders in the second round secured them the win though, and in the end it was Dirk Demeersman who was the hero of the day for Belgium!

In the second round Belgium’s first rider Pieter Devos followed his opening clear round with a four fault round aboard Dream of India Greenfield - while second rider, Gregory Wathelet, had four faults in the second round as well on the only eight-year-old Sea Cast Forlap. Wouter Devos, doing his Nations Cup debut, mirrored his brother’s result when following up his clear first round with four faults in the second on Tonik Hero. As Demeersman returned to the ring after a zero penalty score in the first round on Bufero van het Panishof, Belgium was on a 12 penalty score. When Dirk followed up with another brilliant clear, producing the sole double clear performance of the class, the victory belonged to Belgium with an eight penalty score. Germany ended second with 12 penalties and Austria third on 29 penalties.
