Bertram Allen won the prestigious Longines Grand Prix at the Dublin Horse Show on Sunday. This was Allen and Molly Malone V's (Kannan x Cavalier) second Longines Grand Prix win for the season, the pair also rode to victory in Lummen in May. As the only Irish combination to make it through to the eight horse jump-off, the pressure was on for Bertram, who just turned 19 earlier this month, – but as always the hugely talented rider stayed cool as ice to set the fastest time of the final round.
Only twenty-eight riders completed the first round of the competition. No less than six retired, and one rider was eliminated – as well as quite a number choosing not to ride as the grass ring was very wet following huge rain fall during the night and morning hours.
Nevertheless five of the riders in the jump-off went clear, and runner-up behind Allen was USA's Kent Farrington on Uceko (Celano x Koriander) who finished over a second behind on the clock, while France's Timothée Anciaume with Padock du Plessis*Hn (Kannan x Adelfos) ended in third place almost three seconds behind the winners. Another French rider followed in fourth; Jerome Hurel on Quartz Rouge (Ultimo van ter Moude) and in fifth came Colombia's Daniel Bluman on Apardi (Corland x Kannan).
