Roger-Yves Bost won Friday night's 1,50 class in Cannes with Castle Forbes Myrtille Paulois (Dollar du Murier x Grand Veneur) after an amazing jump-off.
The first round was very technical and gave the riders several challenges, but still fifteen riders qualified for the jump-off. The first two riders in the jump-off - Jane Richard Philips with Dieudonne de Guldenboom (Nabab de Reve x Gibramino) and Kevin Staut with For Joy van't Zorgvliet HDC (For Pleasure x Heartbreaker) had to settle with four and eight faults. But the third rider Denis Lynch with the big jumping All Star (Argentinus x Alme) cleared the course in 37,98 seconds.
Jessica Springsteen, with the only nine year old Zero, did a calm jump-off. Nevertheless the Global Champions Tour plank as number five fell. Ben Maher on the other hand went all in with Aristo Z (Andiamo x Flamenco de Semilly). Even though the second fence fell he kept the speed up and was one of the fastest once in the jump-off on the expence of the last fence.
VDL Groep Eureka (Chin Chin x Quidam de Revel) looked amazing today and Maikel van der Vleuten got a fantastic turn after the second last to the last fence and took over the lead from Denis. Julien Epaillard with the Casall-son Cristallo A LM had the worst possible start with the first fence down, but then made a calm and safe round.
Michael Whitaker went clear and into third with the beautiful Elie van de Kolmen (President x Darco). Next out was Harrie Smolders with his new mount Jackson Hole (Quite Easy x Robin Z). Harrie rode a safe clear round with the well jumping nine year old. The whole crowd was cheering for Penelope Leprevost on Nice Stephanie (Cardento x Ralme Z) and she found great forward distances to all the fences but the last pole didn't want to stay up. Another rider that gave her all was Edwina Tops-Alexander with Guccio (Quick Star x Cantus). It was good enough for a fourth place in the end with her 37,72 seconds.
Juan Carlos Garcia really let Bonzai van de Warande (Nonstop x Feinschnitt) use his big strides, but the fifth fence stopped a clear round. Bassem Hassan Mohammed with the fantastic Victoria (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve x Cordano) started off kind of slow, but speeded it up during the round and finished the course in 38,12 seconds which was good enough for a final sixth place.
Second last to go was Roger Yves Bost with Castle Forbes Myrtille Paulois and he gave the home crowd a jump-off in real Bosty-style! Full speed, short turns and clear - what more can you ask for? Last to go was Luciana Diniz with the charming Lady Lindenhof (Grand Chef Bleus x Type d'Elle). She really fought Bosty for the win but had to settle for the third place.
