Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Today's decision from the Belgian Arbitration Court for Sport (CBAS) has given Constant van Paesschen a spot on the Belgian team for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Van Paesschen was originally not selected, and together with his horse owner Imminvest he took legal steps to challenge the selection for the Games. CBAS made a decision on Thursday afternoon, putting Van Paesschen on the team with Citizenguard Toscan de Sainte Hermelle.

The decision forces the Belgian Equestrian Federation to leave one existing team-member out. The original squad consisted of Pieter Devos with Dream of India Greenfield, Jos Lansink with Ensor de Litrange LXII, Olivier Philippaerts with Cabrio van de Heffinck and Gregory Wathelet with Conrad de Hus while Jos Verlooy with Domino is reserve. Now one of these rider will have to give way for the 20 year old Van Paesschen. The Belgian Equestrian Federation has until midnight to decide who it will be, due to the deadline for definitive entries.

"We are pleased that the CBAS gives a clear signal to the Federation that it is necessary to set transparent selection first and to communicate the reasons for its decision," says Van Paesschen and Imminvest’s lawyers.
