It was Denmark’s Sören Pedersen who stole the show in the Championat von Hannover at the German Classics on Saturday evening. Riding the lovely Tailormade Cavetta (Careful x Grannus), Pedersen produced the sole double clear of the class to take home the top prize in this 1.50 class. Only five of the over fifty riders in the class managed to ride a clear first round over Frank Rothenberger and Christian Wiegand’s tricky eleven fence track to move on to the jump-off.
The first clear came from Julia Kayser on Sterrehof’s Cayetano, and then the crowds had to wait for over thirty more riders to enter and leave the ring before Pedersen set the next clear. Among the ten last to go followed three more; John Whitaker, Katrin Eckermann and Laura Kraut all left the ring on a zero penalty score.
In the jump-off it was only the Danish rider and his wonderful chestnut mare that managed to ride a clear round. Although Katrin Eckermann and the Nabab de Reve-son Nabab de Revel had the fastest time of the day it came of the expense of a pole and the super quick German rider had to settle for second. Also with four faults was in-form John Whitaker who on Lord of Arabia (Cassini II x Carry) ended third. Laura ended fourth on Cedric (Chambertin x Carolus I), and Julia fifth.
