Legal action has been taken by Constant van Paesschen and the owner of his horse Citizenguard Toscan de Sainte Hermelle – Imminvest – to challenge the Belgian selection for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. This has been confirmed by the Belgian Equestrian Federation on their website. The Belgian team for Normandy was announced on Monday, but the squad did not include the 20 year old Van Paesschen.
Together with Citizenguard Toscan de Sainte Hermelle, Van Paesschen rode a double clear round in the Nations Cup in Rome in May – contributing to the Belgian victory. The couple was also third in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Antwerp in April, in addition to having several other top results this season.
The Belgian Equestrian Federation response to the legal steps taken, is that their legal advisers will respond to it appropriately. Furthermore, the federation states that they have full confidence in the selection that was made, and that their first concern is to ensure that those who were selected will be allowed to focus on the sport and come well prepared for the Games.
The team selected consists of Pieter Devos with Dream of India Greenfield, Jos Lansink with Ensor de Litrange LXII, Olivier Philippaerts with Cabrio van de Heffinck and Gregory Wathelet with Conrad de Hus. Jos Verlooy with Domino is reserve.
