Cornet´s Balou - the best 5 year old at the Bundeschampionat

Sunday, 04 September 2011

The winner of the Bundeschampionat for 5 year old horses - Patrick Stühlmeyer with Cornet´s Balou. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Cornet´s Balou (Cornet Obolensky x Continue) is the new champion for five year old horses in Germany together with Patrick Stühlmeyer from Stall Schockemöhle. The win came after two great rounds which gave him the score 9,10 in the first round and 9,0 in the second round, ending up on a total of 18,10 points. The judges are looking for how rideable the horses are, how they jump and how the horse and rider work together. Cornet´s Balou is bred by Stud Lewitz that still own the stallion.

The Swedish rider Henrik von Eckermann with Forchello (For Pleasure x Collin L) ended up in second place with the total score of 18,0 points and probably lost the first position due to his horse cross cantering between fence seven and eight. Forchello is bred by the Ukrainian Alexander Onishchenko, and is now owned by Equus Invest AG.

Henrik was the only rider that managed to get two horses among the nine best that qualified for the second round. The other horse was Carento, a stallion by Caretino x Contender that ended up in seventh place.

Forchello and Henrik von Eckermann ended up in second position. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Eva Bitter had a hard day today as she had qualified all her four 5 year olds to the final. Stanley (Stakkato x Loredo), who was the big favorite, jumped amazing in the beginning of the first round but at the end he showed that he was tired after the last days and two poles fell. But with three other fantastic horses Eva had some great success. Argelith Squid (Salito x Gibraltar) helped Eva to get the bronze medal with a total score of 17,80.

Some facts:

* 32 horses and riders had qualified for the final.

* Eva Bitter was the only one who managed to qualify four horses. Henrik von  Eckermann had three horses in the final and five riders had two horses each.

* Stakkato was the stallion with most offspring’s in the final with five horses. Cornet Obolensky had four offspring.
