Countdown to Grand Prix as speed class raises the temperature in Lausanne

Saturday, 15 September 2012

Earlier British rider and Olympic team gold medallist Ben Maher guided Aristo to a brilliant clear in 53.74 with a relentless pace. He was eclipsed by speed supremo Rodrigo Pessoa on Let's Fly. The Brazilian was dramatically quick turning after the Jaeger-LeCoultre fence and despite checking his horse several times he still managed to nudge ahead in 53.54.

But Harrie's bay stallion Exquis Powerfee, jumped ultra low and close to the fences and in a feat of precision jumping he finished in first place in the 1m45 Prix Nissan.

Olympic individual gold medal winner Steve Guerdat was honoured in a special ceremony before the Grand Prix. The Swiss champion was applauded by the home crowd as he rode his star horse Nino Des Buissonnets into the arena followed by an elegant horse and carriage. Steve praised his horse as "phenomenal" and said of his Olympic win: "Yes my life has changed. Such happiness each day. Every minute was unforgettable. It was good for sport in general, good for Switzerland and good for equestrian sport."
