It was a good evening for Stephex Stables in Lyon on Saturday, as Daniel Deusser won the Equita Masters presented by Equdia Life – and his colleague Eiken Sato rode into second. Deusser’s win came aboard the nine year old mare Evita van de Veldbalie (Wandor vd Mispelaere x Clinton) in front of a full house of spectators in Lyon who made sure to give the German rider standing ovation for his performance.
Initially Eiken Sato took the lead after two faultless rounds on Espyrante (Obourg x Pauillac De Meia Lua), with a time of 42.76 seconds in round two of the competition. Then it was all about waiting for Sato, as his competitors gave it a try.
The lead lasted until his stable-mate and colleague entered the ring as the final rider to go. Daniel produced a smooth and beautiful second round, getting a perfect angel and stride to the penultimate vertical before he took out some real gallop on the final stretch down to the last oxer – crossing the finish line on 42.43 seconds and securing the top two positions for Stephex Stables. Third was Hans-Dieter Dreher riding Colore, who had the time of 43.93 in the second round.
