It was a very popular home win for Darragh Kenny and Picolo at Dublin Horse Show on Wednesday afternoon. The Irish rider and the 11 year old gelding by Diamant de Semilly x Alme and have been on cracking form lately, and have picked up no less than six wins over the two past months. Today's victory was the seventh, and it came in the 1.50-1.60 Irish Sports Council Classic class with over fifty riders in it.
Coming in as last to go of the fourteen combinations in the jump-off, Kenny shaved off almost a second on Ben Maher's time aboard the notoriously fast Aristo Z (Andiamo x Flamenco de Semilly) – pushing the British rider down to second place. Sweden's Henrik von Eckermann had to settle for third on For Sale 6 (For Pleasure x Cassini I) after taking an early lead as third to go in the jump-off, with a time that in the end was over a second slower than the winning one.
Earlier in the day, the 1.45 Speed Stakes sponsored by Avery Crest Ski Chalets was totally dominated by Irish riders as three home jockeys ended on top. This time around it was Cameron Hanley on Newton du Haut Bois (Cumano x Quat 'Sous) that was the best. With a time of 53.97 seconds, he left Thomas Ryan on Cruise on Clover (Cruising x Clover Hill) behind him in second with a time of 55.14. Third was Michael Duffy on Westland Ruby (Aldato x King of Diamonds).
