Denis Lynch and Abberuail van het Dingeshof (Nonstop x Jus de Pomme) were unbeatable in the 1,55 m Rabobank Championship of Rotterdam on Saturday. The class that consisted of 52 riders was the last qualifier for Sunday's Grand Prix, so it was an important class for several of the riders.
Twelve riders made it to the jump-off, but for many of them the problems started there. The crowds had to wait until the sixth rider for a clear round, and it came from Jessica Springsteen with Lisona (Carinue x Balou du Rouet). Before the American rider entered the ring, Gerco Schröder and Cognac Champlanc (Clearway), Yuri Mansur Guerios on Amor (Namelus R x Haarlem) and Jur Vrieling on Vdl Zirocco Blue N.O.P (Mr Blue x Voltaire) all ended on four faults. Roger Yves Bost with Nippon d'Elle (Scherif d'Elle x Narcos) also had one fence down, but had to add another four faults for exceeding the time allowed.
Gregory Wathelet and Papillon Z (Perhaps x Cassini I) ended on a massive 52 faults after getting problems in the turn to the second fence, and also Jos Lansink's 30 faults with Ensor de Litrange Lxii (Nabab de Reve x Mr Blue) were mostly caused by the same turn.
Dermott Lennon on Loughview Lou-Lou (Limmerick x Jack of Diamonds) was the second rider to clear the course and being more than two seconds faster than Springsteen he took over the lead. Next to go was Thursday's winner Marcus Ehning with Sabrina (Sandro Boy x Landadel) and all the way to the last fence it looked like he would repeat his win from Thursday - the German rider had the fastest time, but unfortunately last fence down.
Marc Houtzager with Sterrehof's Voltaire (Now or Never x Accord) also had to live with four faults before Denis Lynch entered the arena taking over the lead with half a second. Last to go was Ludger Beerbaum who made a very safe round with the inexperienced Carinou (Carinue x Balou du Rouet), ending the course with three time penalties and a fourth place.
Earlier in the day Leon Thijssen with Haertthago (Heartbreaker x Carthago Z) won the 1,45 m speed class ahead of Cian O'Connor on Blue Loyd (Landor S) and Holly Gillott on Vinny Douglas (Vdl Douglas x Santa's Sleigh).
The Stoeterij Sterrehof Youngster Tour for 6 -7 year old horses was won by Roger Yves Bost with Hija van Strokapelleken (Calido x Azur Depaulstra). Second place went to Romain Duguet on the Mylor Carthago-daughter Twentytwo Des Biches and Timothy Hendrix with Cavalia (Vingino x Manhattan) ended third.
