Does the apple fall far from the tree? Baloubet du Rouet and some of his offspring

Thursday, 14 November 2013
In this photo series we will take a closer look at some of the sport’s top stallions, and if the offspring bear any resemblance to their sires! This time we look closer at one of the greatest sires in the sport - Baloubet du Rouet (Galoubet A x Starter), that had huge success under Brazil's Rodrigo Pessoa winning the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 as well as going to the top of the World Cup Final three times - in 1998, 1999 and in 2000. One of the most famous Baloubet du Rouet-offspring is Palloubet d’Hallong, who recently made the headlines when he was sold for a mind blowing sum for Edwina Tops-Alexander to ride. Here seen with his former rider Janika Sprunger in the saddle who earlier this year ended second with the gelding in the prestigious Rolex Grand Prix in Aachen. The 10 year old is French bred, out of the mare Indra Love by Muguet du Manoir. Photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.
AD Rahmannshof’s Bogeno is another successful Baloubet-son, and he is ridden by Brazil’s Alvaro de Miranda. With Doda, Bogeno ended second in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona in September. Bogeno is bred by Luc Henry, and originally he was named Queen’s Lover Hero – the 13 year old gelding is out of Katinka van de Castershoeve by Elanville.
West Side v Meerputhoeve has had great success in the sport with Clarissa Crotta – in 2009 they won the team gold medal at the European Championships at Windsor, and in March the super pair was third in the five star Grand Prix in Doha. The 14 year old gelding is Belgian bred out of the mare Pollonia van Hazenhoek by Apollonios.
Balahe is a Baloubet du Rouet-daughter out of the mare Nina Ricci by Flamingo. The 11 year old Swedish bred mare can be seen under Sweden’s Douglas Lindelöw who has had top results on her on international 1.50 level.
Vdl Bubalu needs little introduction. With his rider Jur Vrieling the Dutch bred stallion has jumped to Olympic team silver in addition to countless other top results. The 11 year old is out of the celebrated Nimmerdor-mare Zancara.
B Once Z is a successful Baloubet du Rouet-daughter competed by Katharina Offel. Together the pair has had some great results up to five star Grand Prix level. The 9 year old Zangersheide-mare is bred by Nico Schulpen, and is out of the Lavaletto-mare Tavaletto.
Another extremely successful Baloubet du Rouet-son is Chaman. Ridden by Ludger Beerbaum, this 14 year old KWPN stallion has won some big classes such as the RWE Preis von Nordrhein-Westfalen in Aachen this summer, the Gothenburg Trophy presented by Carpe Diem and the Grand Prix Hermes this spring – to mention some recent ones. Chaman’s birthname was Soekot, and he is out of the I Love You-mare Jadied.
Number One d’Iso Un Prince is a French bred Baloubet du Rouet-son out of the mare Hotesse du Hamel by the stallion Si Tu Viens. With Nicolas Delmotte in the saddle this all-French combination has done some great things this season; the pair was on the winning team in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup in Drammen, on the second placed Nations Cup team in Copenhagen – in addition to picking up some impressive Grand Prix results.
Maloubet du Temple bears resemblance to his father, and the 13 year old stallion can be seen under Switzerland’s Paul Estermann. The two have had some good results this year – including a win in Rotterdam. Maloubet du Temple is out of Elverdie du Temple, a mare by Ouragan de Baussy.
Southwind VDL has had a successful career – first with Cameron Hanley, and lately with Tiffany Foster. The Grand Prix jumper is now 14 years old. The Dutch bred gelding is out of the Ahorn-mare Helena.
Napoli du Ry can be seen under France’s Simon Delestre. The 12 year old gelding jumped at the Olympics last year, and has some big wins added to his name – from Antwerpen, Stuttgart and Basel to mention some, and has numerous top results with Simon. Gestut Lewitz bred him out of the mare La Donna by Silvio I.
The Baloubet du Rouet-son Palouchin has been a win machine for Rodrigo Pessoa - who also rode Palouchin's father. The now 14 year old gelding is a home made product, bred by the Pessoas themselves and the mother is Chin China by Chin Chin.
