Does the apple fall far from the tree? For Pleasure and some of his offspring

Thursday, 09 January 2014

In this photo series we will take a closer look at some of the sport’s top stallions, and if the offspring bear any resemblance to their sires! This time we look closer at For Pleasure, who sired some of the best showjumpers in the world – as well as having had huge success in the sport himself under Marcus Ehning and Lars Nieberg. For Pleasure was born in 1986, and was by Furioso II x Grannus. Photo by Jacob Melissen.

Derly Chin de Muze in a good example of a successful For Pleasure-offspring. Out of the mare Werly Chin de Muze, the 11 year old mare is bred by Joris de Brabander at Stal de Muze in Belgium. Derly Chin de Muze was Eric Lamaze’s Olympic partner in London last year. Firth of Lorne is a ten year old For Pleasure-son out of the mare Starlight by Stakkato. He is bred by Meinolf Roelleke, and registered in the Hannoveraner Verband. Firth of Lorne is ridden by Germany’s Katrin Eckermann, and together the pair has international wins from Paderborn and Donaueschingen.  For Fox Heldenlaan is a promising eight year old For Pleasure-son ridden by Dominique Hendrickx. Out of the mare Pia Heldenlaan by Pinkus, For Fox Heldenlaan is bred by Dirk Cesteleyn and registered in the Studbook Zangersheide.  A For Pleasure-daughter with huge success is Luciana Diniz’s Fit For Fun 13. The ten year old Hannoveraner mare is out of the mare Fetzi by Fabriano, and was bred by Sigrid Crome-Sperling. With Luciana, Fit For Fun has been in the money at basically every show she has jumped at in 2013.  Flora de Mariposa is a For Pleasure-daughter out the mare Adeline by Powerlight. She is Belgian bred, and can now be seen jumping under Penelope Leprevost. The pair was second in the Best of Champions in Aachen last season, as well as third in the Stawag-Preis – to mention some of the best results from 2013. Florette van het Lambroeck is a For Pleasure-daughter ridden by Edwina Tops-Alexander. Out the mare Alouette van het Lambroeck by Baloubet du Rouet, this mare has serious good blood lines. This nine year old mare is Belgian bred, and is now jumping on international level under the Australian rider. Forchello is an eight year old son of For Pleasure ridden by Ludger Beerbaum’s stable jockey Christian Kukuk. The pair competed at the World Breeding Championships in Lanaken in 2013. Forchello is out of the mare Cecily by Collin L. Like father, like son; Funky Fred is a proof that the apple does not fall far from the tree. Now nine years old, Funky Fred is home bred by the Ehnings and out of the mare Panama by Pilot. Ater being very successful in the youngster classes, he is now competing at top level with Marcus – who also rode his father. Henrik von Eckermann has had great results on the For Pleasure-daughter For Sale 6. The eight year old is out of the mare Cassina by Cassini I, and competed at the World Breeding Championships with Henrik last year. In 2013 the two have Youngster Tour wins from Aachen and Rome.  Manuel Fernandez Saro and For Money in action. For Money is a seven year old For Pleasure-stallion out of the mare Charone Z by Calvados bred by Stoeterij Tommelberg. The pair competed at the World Breeding Championships in Lanaken in 2013.  Pikeur For Fun is a 12 year old For Pleasure-gelding ridden by Germany’s Markus Brinkmann. He is out of the mare Polydora by Polydor, and bred by the Brinkmanns themselves. Pikeur For Fun competes at international four star level.  Another Pleasure is a For Pleasure son ridden by Robert Vos. The nine year old is out of the Ramiro Z-mare Nielrite, and is bred by B. Ellen. Another Pleasure competed at last year’s edition of Sires of the World – and has wins up to three star level with Vos.  Famoso D Ive Z is a seven year old For Pleasure-son out of the mare Radetsky by Chin Chin, and bred by Isabelle Van Eeckhout. He ended ninth in the six year old final in Lanaken in 2013 with Yves Vanderhasselt.

Epleaser van’t Heike is a fabulous mix between For Pleasure and Valentina van’t Heike! Jos Lansink former super star is the mother of the ten year old stallion, who is bred in Belgium by Karel Booen – who also bred Valentina. Epleaser van’t Heike is now jumping impressively on five star level with Lansink’s stable jockey Frank Schuttert.
For Joy van’t Zorgvliet HDC is another successful For Pleaure-son. The nine year old is Belgian bred out of the Heartbreaker-mare Contesse van’t Zorgvliet, and his breeder is Andre Braeckevelt. For Joy van’t Zorgvliet HDC can be seen under Kevin Staut, who campaigns the horse on five star level.
Like father, like son; Barron – one of the best For Pleasure-offspring on the circuit. The ten year old has had huge success with American rider Lucy Davies, who rode him to victory in the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Consolation Final in Barcelona last year as well as in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Lausanne. Out of the mare Vita van het Riethof by Nabab de Reve, the bloodlines on Barron is very similar to those on Epleaser van’t Heike. Barron is bred by Marc Devos.
Calgot Pleasure is another very interesting For Pleaure-offspring. The nine year old mare is Irish bred out Dermott Lennon's former World Champion Liscalgot, and Dermott now campaigns the horse himself on five star level.
