Australian rider Edwina Tops-Alexander and Old Chap Tame (Carthago x Quidam de Revel) won the four star World Cup Grand Prix in Doha yesterday. Eleven combinations qualified for the 2nd round out of 20 riders over all, but nobody could do anything about Edwina.
Tops-Alexander was the first to enter the ring in the 2nd round, and got a great clear round as pathfinder. Edwina managed to produce a quick time to put some pressure on the other ten. She did it successfully when she finished her round aboard the 12 year stallion in a time of 49.29 seconds.
Home rider Ali Al-Rumaihi was the last rider in this 2nd round. Ali was riding Gunder (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Randel Z), and the couple finished their round with zero penalties in a total time of 50.37 seconds which allowed them to finish as runners-up eventually.
The Saudi rider Abdullah Al-Sharbatly came on the third spot, riding La Toya 44 ( Le Cou Cou x Argentinus). Abdullah had a fence down within 49.52 seconds.
The 9th Arab League competition saw 20 points go to Ali Al-Rumaihi of Qatar, while Al-Sharbatly got 17 of them. The Arab League will continue in United Arab Emirates with four shows to be held later on the next couple of months.
