Eric van der Vleuten to continue top level jumping

Friday, 23 September 2011

Eric van der Vleuten has decided to continue his career on the international showjumping scene. Photos by Jenny Abrahamsson.Following his bad fall with VDL Groep Utascha SFN at the last day of the European Championships in Madrid, Eric van der Vleuten considered ending his career as a showjumper. After collecting his thoughts through the week Van der Vleuten has now decided that he will continue to compete and he will thus not be lost for Dutch showjumping.

The fall came in the second round of the individual final when Utascha was confused by the shadow at the first fence, which was caused by the bright sunshine. The Lux-mare went off far too early and landed in the middle of the vertical and rotated over the fence. As a result of the fall, the rider himself suffered from a slight shoulder injury. Utascha luckily seems to be recovering well from the fall that could have ended really badly.

The fall that followed here for Eric and Utascha made the Dutch showjumper reconsider his career. You can see the video of Eric and Utascha’s terrible fall on the website horses.nl, click on the link below.
