First day at Olympia

Thursday, 15 December 2011

The opening class in London went to "Jimmy". Here from Gothenburg earlier this year. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson. The show at Olympia in London started off with a Norwegian win in the Welcome Two Phase Stakes. Geir Gulliksen is a regular guest at Olympia, and with Rusedski (Darco x Concorde) he had the fastest round in the 1.45 jump-off, 1.15 seconds a head of home favorite Robert Smith riding Ude (Nairobi x Goeverneur). Third place went to Simon Delestre and Quiness de Mezel (Elan de la Cour). Cian O’Connor had a double clear with his new ride Blue Loyd and ended in a 9th place.

The 1.50 class in the afternoon went to Dermott Lennon and Loughview Lou-Lou (Limmerick x Jack of Diamonds) after two clear rounds in the Horse Deals Christmas Pudding Stakes. The pair also won a class in Geneva last weekend and seem to be a good combination. Behind them on the score board were some big names such as John Whitaker riding Dazzle II (Kannan x Cavalier Royale), Marcus Ehning and Noltes Küchengirl (Lord Z x Cambridge Cole), Laura Kraut with Cedric and the European Champion Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and Carusso LS la Silla (Montebello la Silla x Joost).

The last class thursday - the 1.50 Christmas Speed Stakes - finally gave a home win with  a stylish fast round from Ben Maher and Milena (Caretiono x Le Grand I). Scott Brash gave the homwcrowd even more to celebrate, being the runner up aboard Sebastian (Mermus R x Eusebio) 1.20 seconds behind Maher. Then there was room for the rest of the world with Marcus Ehning and Pius Schwizer on the following places.
