Five on their favorites ahead of the individual final at the European Championships

Friday, 23 August 2013

William Funnell believes in Ben Maher! Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.William Funnell; “I think Ben Maher will win. He is perfect under pressure, and he has ridden perfect rounds every time here. The horse does not look like it will knock a jump down! It can’t be so big that it will kill everybody, so it’s going to be tight tomorrow – there’s just one fence between the top six. But I really can’t see Ben making a mistake, so he’s my favorite for tomorrow!

Henk Nooren; “I think it’s very close because it’s a group of horses that are jumping bloody well! I would say that the top five’s horses – Ben, Bosty, Rolf, Daniel, Ludger’s –are all jumping really well, as is Janika’s horse. But, on the other hand – Nino has been jumping well, then he had that small mistake yesterday. We saw this in Madrid as well when Rolf came in from behind on the last day and then still won it in the end. So, it depends on how difficult it will get and on the riders’ nerves. It will be exciting! If I have to bet, I bet on Ben, Rolf and Daniel – that would be my top three.

Geir Gulliksen would bet on Ben, Rolf and Ludger. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Geir Gulliksen; “The top five – Ben, Bosty, Rolf, Daniel and Ludger – are really close. They are all strong riders, and their horses have been jumping really well. But I think Ben Maher can go all the way to the top, and bring it home. I also think we will see Rolf and Ludger on podium tomorrow. If I was going to play a triple, I would play these three!”

Henrik von Eckermann; “I would bet on Rolf! But I think the three strongest ones are those that are three, four and five – Rolf, Daniel and Ludger. Daniel’s horse has jumped amazing the entire year, as has Casall and Chiara. Bosty also looked good yesterday, and Myrtille jumped really well and solved everything easy in the team final.  But Ben is of course also extremely strong, so we’ll see. It’s really open in the top six.”

Ludo thinks it's very open ahead of the individual final tomorrow. Photo by Jenny Abrahamsson.Ludo Philippaerts; “I think it’s going to be big tomorrow, like always. I think many riders have the chance to win, but so far I have to say Ben Maher has been really good. But there are of course a few more as well. Who’s gonna win? It’s a difficult question – but I think we can expect to see Daniel Deusser on the podium, maybe Bosty and Rolf is also always good. And then there is of course Ben. But, it’s really open tomorrow!”
